Bread....

While the wind whips away outside today we're snuggled up inside, not too far from the wood fire - making bread.....

As I set a 'honey & oat' loaf aside for its final rise and clear off my side of the bench Connie puts the finishing 'sprinkle' on a special concoction of her own.....

So tell me, do you like to make your own bread??? If so, are you a bread-machine kinda girl or do you like the process of making the whole loaf from scratch yourself?

I go both ways and feel that each method is equally as good as the other. My bread machine is used every other day and produces the yummiest crusty white loaf my family and I have ever tasted, where as the oven is used twice daily to produce small, crunchy, mouth-watering, Artisan style loaves.

Am I making you hungry yet????

  1. I have to make the gluten free bread every week, in the bread machine . So it has, unfortunately, become a chore and it doesn't really compare to the normal bread. I do make a an oven gf bread occasionaly and it is yummy. It is very time consuming though which is why it is only occasional, and it is not very cost effective to make all the time either.

  5. I want your kitchen!! I love making bread from scratch, when I have time. Otherwise I use my bread machine to go through the mix and rise and then turn the dough out into my loaf pan, let it rise and bake it in the oven. My bread machine always leaves a great big hole in the base and it annoys me to no end!

  7. I love making my own bread. I don't have a bread machine so it's all from scratch. I find the process quite therapeutic and the end result SO satisfying :) I really want to try making sourdough bread!

  9. I agree nothing beats home-made bread. I was making it by hand but when we started eating 2 - 3 loaves a day, everyday (coz let's face it, it's awesome) I had to get a little help from the bread-machine. Although it definetly is better than the garden variety, it certainly doesn't beat hand-made. And it's great that the kids get to see how a loaf of bread comes from flour and yeast... :-)

  10. I get the bags of bread mix from Furneys in the big town.........it's great and I usually use the bread maker.........sometimes I pull it out and shape it myself but really it's more to save time for me........what ever way you do it the home made bread is so good..........we have a soy linseed mix we add to the loaves sometimes too which the kids call bird seed bread.........they love it.........

  15. There is just something truly great about making bread with your own hands, i always have a great sense of achievement when i tackle a new loaf. I to am a lover of artisan bread, it is that tradition of the so many people before you who have made them in the same way. Hi from the sunny top end.

  16. Hey Jodie.... I stopped by to do some catch up reading... it's been a while since I've visited!
I used to make my own bread by hand... first I started with 2 loaves, then DH came home and ate a whole loaf (first time I made it) so after that.... it was 4 at a time (a week) then as the kids grew... I got to making 8 loaves of bread a week..
doing it all by hand... mostly cause it was faster/cheaper than getting a mixer... we did get a bread machine as a gift, but didn't use is quite as much as I made it!
It's great to make it... you can beat out all of your frustrations while hand kneading it! LoL...
    Enjoy...
